About Perkins Bar & Bistro

Opened in 1982 Perkins is a relaxed countryside bar and bistro in Plumtree, Nottingham. Owned and operated by the Perkins Family since the beginning we serve a combination of modern British and classic bistro dishes giving Perkins and identity all of its own.

All food is bought in daily using local suppliers wherever possible to allow us to work with the best and freshest ingredients. We like to think we provide understated quality, where we produce all food in-house from our own smoked salmon, freshly baked bread, to our own ice-creams.

Perkins has a heart and soul all of its own which has been built over the past four decades. We love seeing new faces as much as we love seeing our special regulars – some of which have been with us from the start. We hope you’ll join us soon!

Our History

In 1981 Tony and Wendy Perkins got planning to convert Plumtree Station into Perkins Bar Bistro which after much hard work opened on October 14th 1982.

With Tony in the kitchen and Wendy running front of house, the restaurant proved to be a real hit with locals and those from further afield winning awards and gaining entry into national guides.

Keeping it in the family, Tony & Wendy’s sons Jon and David took over the bistro in 2002. Jon and David put their stamp on the bistro but also kept close the family values of personalised service and teamwork that Tony & Wendy held so dear.

Most recently Perkins has won Best Boutique Accommodation (Nov 2017) with the Nottinghamshire Tourism Awards and came runner up in Best Out of Town Restaurant in The Nottingham Food & Drink Awards (July 2017).


Great food to us is about great ingredients – we rely on the relationships with our suppliers that we have forged over many years to ensure we get the best.

Our Smokehouse

We are one of very few restaurants in this country with its own smokehouse. Built in 2005, to a Canadian design, the smokehouse has got better with age, and chefs have great fun experimenting with dishes and discovering something new and exciting. The most popular ingredients include salmon, mackerel, haddock, ham, mushrooms and cheese.

Private Events

We have had the pleasure of hosting many parties, weddings and anniversaries over the years. The ‘waiting room’ which is to one side of the bistro can seat up to 26 people; and for larger parties of up to 70 people we’d be happy to discuss private hire of the venue. We pride ourselves on delivering a personalised service and with over 35 years’ experience you can rest assured we will do everything possible to deliver your perfect event.
